Despite the recent political controversy surrounding him, Pakho Chau is glad that it did not affect his music career at all, as he recently won two accolades at the Metro Radio Hit Awards.

As reported on Mingpao, the singer, who appeared at the awards ceremony on 30 December to accept his awards for Best Male Singer and Best Song (for “Aftermath”), thanked his management and his fans for their support during the trying times.

“Whatever you do, your family’s happiness is the most important. There is nothing more important than that,” he said.

It is noted that Pakho earlier lost more than 40,000 followers on Instagram after his recent interview in which he declared himself Chinese and denied any affiliation with Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong. He had since been blasted online by pro-independence supporters who accused him of being wishy-washy with his political opinion.

His win at the Hit Awards was also met with scorn by some viewers, who flooded the Facebook page of Metro Radio with criticisms and negative comments – prompting the administrator to turn off the messaging function.

Pakho also did not perform at the event, unlike fellow winners Alfred Hui and Jason Chan Pak Yu. He then declined to make any comments regarding his previous statement.
