From 29 November to 1 December 2019, relive the hustle and bustle of Downtown Kuala Lumpur’s Madras Lane at Lorong Fest.

The open-air car park and wet market will be transformed into a celebration of culture, history, and food, featuring live performances, film screenings, a photo exhibition, arts and crafts workshops and plenty of local hawker food.

With aims to introduce Madras Lane’s rich heritage to new audiences, Lorong Fest is just one component of Think City, DBKL and Citi Foundation’s holistic and ambitious plan – under the Laneway Improvement Programme – to revitalise Kuala Lumpur’s many historic laneways, by turning them into comfortable public spaces to be enjoyed by people from all walks of life.
Madras Lane was the entertainment hub of the city back in the 1960s and 1970s, as it was home to Madras Theatre, where moviegoers flocked to see the latest action-packed Chinese films, unforgettable Westerns, and epic love stories of the era.
It continues bearing the theatre’s name even after the iconic building was unfortunately lost to a fire in 1979. Decades have passed but the area remains popular for its bustling wet market and delectable hawker food.
So come and enjoy the nostalgic memories of yesteryears as you walk down Madras Lane, join the fun activities or just stroll and enjoy the atmosphere at this weekend’s Lorong Fest.
