Being the only Malaysian singer competing on the new reality show “Chuang 2020”, Joyce Chu is making the nation proud as she continues capturing the mentors’ and audiences’ hearts with her singing and dancing skills.

On the second episode of the show, which aired last week, Joyce showed off her songwriting skills too as she performed her own new self-written song, “Grandpa and Grandma”.

As revealed in a press statement, the singer was inspired to compose the song from the simple but immortal sad love story between her grandparents during the quarantine period.
Mao Buyi, one of the mentors, commented that it was an extraordinary song because Joyce added her own sentiments into a simple melody.
Joyce also recently shared on her Instagram a video of her dancing to the show’s theme song.
Joyce is currently ranked 22 out of the 101 trainees that are competing in the show. If she manages to land in the Top 7 at the end of the competition, she will debut as one of the seven members of a new international girl group.
“Chuang 2020” premiered on 2 May on the streaming platform WeTV. Viewers can stream the weekly episodes for free every Saturday at 8pm.
Apart from Mao, other mentors on the show include Victoria Song, Lu Han and Huang Zitao. Meanwhile, new mentor Kris Wu will be introduced in the upcoming third episode. This marks a reunion of sort for the latter two mentors with Kris as all three of the male singers were previously in the K-pop idol group, EXO.
