After it was reported recently that local animated film “BoBoiBoy Movie 2” will be made available on Netflix, the popular streaming platform has confirmed the news, saying that they have received exclusive streaming rights to the high grossing animated film.
What’s more, animation studio Monsta will be adding in seven minutes of never-before-seen extra footage that was not included in the previous theatrical release.
“The studio has always thrived to make its animations more widely-accessible to viewers everywhere, regardless of borders.
“As such, this partnership with Netflix has opened up an invaluable opportunity for Monsta to reach out to more viewers from across the region, allowing them to experience BoBoiBoy Movie 2 in the comfort of their own homes,” said Monsta CEO Nizam Abd Razak in a press statement.
Netflix subscribers in Southeast Asia will be able to start streaming the movie from this 1 June. It will be available in multiple languages, such as the Malay language, English, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and Indonesian.
Meanwhile, Raphael Phang, Manager Content Acquisition SEA Netflix, stated that they are honoured to be given this chance to stream the animated film exclusively for their subscribers.
“At Netflix we always believe that great stories can come from anywhere and be enjoyed everywhere, that’s why we’re very excited to work with Monsta.”
Previously, “BoBoiBoy Movie 2” set a box office record when it managed to collect more than RM30 million following its release in August last year.
Aside from Malaysia, the animated film – a pride of the nation – was also screened in Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei and Vietnam.
