When the Movement Control Order (MCO) was enforced back in March, many Malaysians found themselves stuck at home with no means of entertaining themselves except with whatever gems they could find online.

Luckily for fans of the Yasmin Ahmad film “Sepet”, not only was it screened for a limited time on YouTube but a musical version was also made available on the same streaming platform for fans’ enjoyment.

Now for those who’ve watched “Sepet the Musical” online and wished that they could’ve seen it live, well, here’s some good news!
Award-winning international theatre company Liver & Lung is all set to revive its sold-out musical adaptation of the acclaimed film, which was first staged for three weekends in late September last year.
Here are the details for the upcoming “Sepet the Musical”:

A taste of what audiences will be treated to in “Sepet the Musical”.
As stated above, the musical is returning for another three weekends this August, making it the first live-theatrical production to be held in Kuala Lumpur during RMCO (the Recovery phase of MCO).
Not only that, this will be a double bill because along with the 2 hours and 45 minutes “Sepet the Musical”, there will also be a 30-minute preview of Liver & Lung’s brand-new original musical, “Songs Inspired by A Little Life”.
The new musical, inspired by Hanya Yanagihara’s award-winning novel, revolves around Jude St Francis, a brilliant and enigmatic lawyer who must learn to confront his past before his life is defined by it forever.
Jude will be portrayed by Joshua Gui, while the younger Jude is to be played by the co-composer of “Sepet The Musical”, Badrish Isdin. Joshua also stars as Jason opposite Badrika Bahadur’s Orked in the “Sepet” musical.
“Both musicals have heart and focus on intelligent characters overcoming personal obstacles. At Liver & Lung, we’re committed to creating theatre that provides audiences with emotive reactions and we hope these shows do just that,” said Shafeeq Shajahan, co-founder of Liver & Lung and recent recipient of the Boh Cameronian Arts Award for Best Direction, in a statement.
Co-founder Hannah Shields also stated, “We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable evening. Of course, we’ll be adding some Liver & Lung magic to the social distancing protocols so they feel part of the overall experience. Who knows, Jason could be checking your temperature on your way into the venue?”
To make the experience even more immersive, audience members are encouraged to come see the musical dressed in their best “Sepet”-inspired attire (think cotton baju kurung).
