It looks like the 2020s continue to be great for Dayo Wong, as his latest film, “The Last Dance” has now surpassed “Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In” to record the biggest opening for a Hong Kong film this year.
The film, which premiered in Hong Kong on 9 November, has received rave reviews even before it was released, enabling it to exceed HKD 6 million on opening day.
This means that it has now defeated the Louis Koo-starrer, which made HKD 5.19 million when it was released back in May.
When asked about it, Dayo expressed, “It feels amazing to be able to break the record. I believe the success of the movie is because it can bring wonderful feelings to the audience. I hope this wonderful journey can go further and be even more amazing.”
Co-starring Michael Hui and Catherine Chau, “The Last Dance” revolves around a debt-ridden wedding planner who inadvertently becomes a successful funeral planner. However, he must convince a traditional Taoist priest of his legitimacy to continue operating in the field.
It is noted that Dayo already has two films in the highest grossing domestic films list, with “A Guilty Conscience” (2023) at the top with HKD 115 million.
