“The Landlady Singer” is returning to Singapore television with a new sequel series premiering November 19, 2024 on Mediacorp Channel 8. The musical drama will air weekly on Tuesdays at 8:00 PM and will also be available on meWATCH and Gov.sg.
The 8-episode series, produced through a partnership between MDDI and mm2 Entertainment, combines original music with reimagined popular songs. While entertaining viewers, the show weaves in information about government initiatives like the Majulah Package, SkillsFuture programs, and the new BTO flat classification system.
Veteran actress Liu Ling Ling returns as main character Ying Jie, alongside original cast members Irene Ang and Ben Hum. The sequel welcomes notable additions including Mark Lee, Marcus Chin, and Evelyn Tan. In an inclusive casting choice, deaf actor Gan Jun Huan plays a deaf character in the series.
The story follows Ying Jie, who moves to a new home and takes in tenants Rong Er and her deaf daughter Ai Lin. The plot centers around their efforts to save a local vinyl store owned by Ying Jie’s old friend from closing down, leading to unexpected revelations and strengthening community bonds along the way.
The series is helmed by director Kok Man Hon, known for his work on “So Bright” and the original “Landlady Singer” series.
