Mariah Carey recently revealed that she had just lost both her mother Patricia and sister Alison over the weekend.
In a statement released on 26 August, the Grammy winner expressed, “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
However, Mariah made no mention as to what caused their deaths.
The 87-year-old Irish-American Patricia was a former opera singer and vocal coach, whom Mariah previously admitted to have had a complicated relationship with.
In her 2020 memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey”, she wrote that professional jealousy “comes with the territory of success, but when the person is your mother and the jealousy is revealed at such a tender age, it’s particularly painful.”
However, she stressed that she has a deep love for her mother, whom she said had done the best that she could to raise her.
Mariah had previously admitted to having had a complex relationship with her late mother, saying that it was emotionally and physically safer for her to not have any contact then. She was sued by Alison after her memoir came out, with the latter calling it “vindictive”.
