Veteran voice actor Atsuko Tanaka, most known for her role as Motoko Kusanagi in “Ghost in the Shell”, has recently passed away.
The news was announced by her son and voice actor Hikaru Tanaka on his Twitter account, writing, “To everyone who has always supported me, on August 20th 2024, my biological mother, voice actress Atsuko Tanaka, passed away.”
“I would like to express my deepest gratitude on behalf of the fans who loved Atsuko Tanaka, and to the industry people who took care of her during her lifetime. It is very unfortunate that we have to announce the mother-child relationship in this way,” he said.
Hikaru stated that at her request, they will not share specific details about her passing, and assured fans that his mother had lived a life of a typical Tanaka – serious, dignified and a little playful.
Throughout her career, Atsuko had voiced various characters including Lisa Lisa in “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure”, Claudette in “Queen’s Blade”, Hanami in “Jujutsu Kaisen”, and had even dubbed characters like Lara Croft in the “Tomb Raider” franchise for Japan.
She was 61.
