Chinese novelist Liu Lianzi recently revealed that she will be working with director Zheng Xiaolong again on an upcoming drama.
As reported on Sohu, the writer, who sat down for a talk recently, shared that she is currently preparing the script for her next project, “Dream of the Red Chamber”, which will be directed by Zheng.
“Him choosing me as the screenwriter is both an honour and a responsibility. I hope to be faithful to the original work, while also bringing new perspective and experience to the audience,” she said.
It is noted that Liu, real name Wu Xuelan, previously wrote the screenplay for the hit palace drama, “The Legend of Zhen Huan” as well as the Zhou Xun-starrer, “Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace”.
“Dream of the Red Chamber” is an 18th century Chinese novel by Cao Xueqin that is considered to be one of the four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. It details the decline of the Jia family, with the major focus on the gifted but obstinate heir of the clan, Baoyu.
