Everyone knows what makes TikTok popular since its inception is the variety of
dances that are created on the platform based on the content creators’ own
creativity. It’s pretty much a must for celebs, influencers and TikTok users
alike to take part in the platform’s viral dance challenges.
The TikTok dance challenges can be quite addictive – don’t lie now,
we know you’ve tried them too! But learning the choreography can take up to at
least 30 minutes, unless you’re a professional dancer or choreographer.
FYI, though their songs might be popular on TikTok, not all the dance
challenges are created by the singers themselves. Most of them are created by
TikTok users and all it takes is for a few influencers to pick up on the
challenges and turn them viral. Since this year is coming to an end, let’s
take a look back at some of the viral TikTok challenges that dominated 2020!
“Savage Love”
With its catchy rhythm, it’s no surprise that this Jason Derulo and Jawsh 685
song is well received. Derulo himself didn’t even expect his song will become
a TikTok dance challenge. The song and dance got so famous to the point that
Jason even made a TikTok edition of his “Savage Love” music video. In fact,
K-pop star BTS even accepted the dance challenge and produced a remixed
version of the song.
“Say So”
@yodelinghaley HERE IT IS!! the full say so dance??
Even though this dance challenge was introduced in 2019, it reached the height
of its popularity sometime in 2020. Because the song went viral, Doja Cat
released a music video for it last February and she herself didn’t miss out on
doing the dance. Doja also featured the dance creator, Haley Sharpe
(@yodellinghaley), in the music video! How cute is that?
“Savage”
@addisonre @sherinicolee OK MAMA
To all you ladies out there, now’s the time to show off your sassy side with
the “Savage” dance challenge! Thanks to Megan Thee Stallion. Now her song has
a huge fanbase on TikTok, after the song was introduced by @keke.janajah
a.k.a. Queen Keke and popularised by TikTok stars Addison Rae and Charli
D’Amelio.
“Supalonely”
@zoifishh not my usual content but this song was too catchy to not make a dance to LMAO?? try it and tag me !! #foryou #foryour #foryoupage #foryourpage
Looks like Zoi Lerma a.k.a @zoifishh is no longer lonely because the dance he
created based on Benee’s song has turned into one of the biggest TikTok trends
in 2020. The dance isn’t so complex and focuses more on hand movements. Thanks
to Zoi, Benee also received a boost of popularity, beating her previous song
“Glitter” that went viral on TikTok in 2019.
“Renegade”
@jalaiahharmon Like we hit the lottery ??? @addisonre @charlidamelio
All the dance classes 14-year-old Jalaiah Harmon attended proved to be worth
it when she broke the internet this year with her “Renegade” dance. Even
though there was the initial issue of the dancer not receiving any credit for
her works due to her lower rank of popularity on TikTok, she gradually started
receiving recognition. She once again grabbed everyone’s attention when she
did the “Renegade” dance with TikTok stars Charli D’Amelio and Addison Rae.
“Shower”
@iambeckyg ##Stillsingingintheshower ? I had to. DC: @zacklugo @notstoud_ @brandonmundine
Surprisingly, six years after this Becky G song was released, it recently
became popular, complete with a dance challenge – on TikTok, of course! Now
there are more than 13 million videos that were created based on this song.
And of course, the challenge is not complete without the petite singer herself
accepting the dance challenge!
“Toosie Slide”
“Toosie Slide” is among the easiest TikTok dance challenges to try. Want to
know why? Because Drake himself already gave the instructions in the song’s
lyrics – “It go, right foot up, left foot slide. Left foot up, right foot
slide”. Interestingly, the rapper’s song caught everyone’s attention even
before it even dropped, three days prior to its release to be exact! Of
course, it was with the help of several dancers like Toosie, Ayo & Teo and
Hiii Key.
“Blinding Lights”
@jaydenprelc Late to the party but, happy quarantine from the Rhapsody of the Seas ##iamroyal ##fyp ##foryoupage ##cruiseship ##distancedance ##blindinglights
For the dance challenge to this The Weeknd song, which has an ‘80s rhythm, you
will need two or more dance partners. This song can unite us all during this
pandemic-stricken time. There’s even a TikTok video of a group of healthcare
workers and cruise ship passengers doing the dance challenge. Perfect for
anyone who needs some time off and want to have fun with a little exercise.
“Tampa Curhat Beat”
@ricardo_crespotv Llegamos al millon de likes?? ##caballeros ##likes ##viral ##trend ##grupo ##cantantes ##amigos ##fyp ##parati ##show
Sometimes, we need a little Latin music in our lives, like “Tampa Curhat
Beat”, which makes us just want to get up and dance. For the TikTok version,
the Karl Wine song is transformed into a remixed version. All you need to do
is move your hands and hips to the beat. To make more fun, invite your friends
to dance along!
“Sunday Best”
@justinbieber
As the title goes, this song from the band Surfaces is your best choice to
listen to while enjoying your Sunday. And like the songs above, it’s also
famous on TikTok with its own dance challenge. Several famous celebs like
Justin Bieber and Jessica Alba even learned the dance during quarantine. The
dance moves are pretty simple, so go give it a try!
