After only eight days of release, Andy Lau’s new movie, “The Movie Emperor” has been taken down from cinemas around mainland China.
As reported on Oriental Daily, in a statement released by the producers, it was revealed that the decision was made due to the presence of a large number of strong competitors at the box office, which has affected the film’s box office number.
“Here we would like to express our utmost apologies to the cast and crew, and thank you for your hard work on the film… Thank you for the viewers who have watched the film and I hope that we can meet you again at a more appropriate time,” the statement added.
It is noted that there were eight new movies released in China on Lunar New Year, and now four of the films have been withdrawn and will apply for different release dates in order not to compete with the more successful films like “YOLO” and “Pegasus 2”.
Despite its withdrawal from China, “The Movie Emperor” will not change its release schedule for other countries.
