Tony Leung Chiu Wai recently admitted that the feeling of winning the Golden Lion Lifetime Achievement Award is different than the other awards that he collected throughout the years, as it was an accumulation of his 41 years of hard work.
The actor, who spoke to the media as he arrived in Hong Kong from the Venice Film Festival, stated, “Suddenly I felt that everything was clear… At that moment, I felt that these 41 years had finally given me an explanation.”
He also stated that the award belongs to everybody who has worked with him in the past, reiterating his previous speech that a movie is not an individual effort but the combined works of many.
“It’s everyone who has made me what I am and it’s just my luck. I think this award should be shared by everyone, because from 1982 to 2023, everyone has worked together and worked hard toward an ideal,” he added.
As to what he would do now that he is back, Tony said that he will celebrate with his mother and friends first.
When asked if he has his eyes on the Oscars next, the actor stated that he has a different mindset now, and that he would like to enjoy working with his team.
“I don’t have to think too much about making a breakthrough. As long as I am prepared, good things will come. It is not about winning,” he added.
