Following the backlash surrounding their performance in Malaysia that led to the cancellation of the Good Vibes Music Festival, it was revealed that The 1975 will not be performing at two of their upcoming shows.

The news was announced by We The Fest and Live Nation Taiwan, the organisers of the band’s upcoming shows, with the statement from the band that read, “The band never take the decision to cancel a show lightly and had been eagerly looking forward to playing for fans in Jakarta and Taipei but unfortunately, due to current circumstances, it is impossible to proceed with the scheduled shows.”

Meanwhile, We The Fest announced that they have added Ferg as part of the festival’s lineup.

Netizens were not amused by this, with some saying that the band was being unprofessional, especially seeing that Taiwan is one of the most progressive Asian countries that legalised same-sex marriage.

Some also expressed relief over the band’s decision, stating that they were worried that the same antics would get the festival in Jakarta cancelled the same way in Malaysia.

Earlier, Malaysia’s Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil slammed the band for their shenanigans on stage, which included The 1975 frontman Matt Healy’s series of inappropriate and rude behaviour, including drinking alcohol and spitting on stage, criticising the Malaysian government, and kissing a male band member.

“Never touch the sensitivities of the community, especially those that are against the manners and values of the local culture,” he tweeted.
