Although Michelle Yeoh has proven that an actor based in Hong Kong can win an Oscar, Sean Lau said that he will not be one to follow her example.
The actor, who won Best Actor for the third time at the Hong Kong Film Awards recently for his performance in “Detective VS. Sleuths”, told the media at the celebration banquet that he is just as happy making movies in Hong Kong.
“Kudos to Michelle Yeoh. I am not joking. It is not easy to get there. Her success means that everyone should not give up,” he said.
Winning Best Actor for the third time, Sean said that the feeling is not much different, but that he is more motivated seeing many new actors and directors at the awards.
“This is the beginning of a new era in the Hong Kong film industry,” he said.
On the other hand, when mentioned that Francis Ng, who presented him with the Best Actor award joking about never winning one himself, Sean laughed and said that Francis himself is a good actor, and the first one among them all to win a Golden Horse Award in 1999 through “The Mission”.
“I have worked with him in many projects. He is definitely capable of winning,” he said.
