It’s been a year since Rita Wilson and husband Tom Hanks became the first Hollywood A-list celebrity couple to be tested positive for COVID-19, and she is not one to forget it.

On 7 March, exactly a year since her and Hanks’ diagnosis, Wilson took to social media to express her thoughts about their previous experience, writing, “One year ago today I was playing the Sydney Opera House, the next day started feeling very tired and achy, two days later hospitalized with Covid 19.”

Wilson stated that both she and the actor were very grateful for their health, and how thankful they are for the medical care received in Queensland.

“[We also] share in the sorrow of each person who lost a loved one to this virus. I’m hopeful for so many being able to get the vaccine. I also do not take for granted that creating music stayed a part of my life through [Zoom] remote and safe recording and writing, even with women from Brazil [Claudia Leitte] and [Raja Kumari] for our new song Hello World.”

In a previous interview, Wilson revealed that they contracted the virus from someone they were both exposed to at the same time, though unsure when or where it happened.

Hanks also went on an interview in June last year to talk about his condition, saying, “Our discomfort because of the virus was pretty much done in two weeks and we had very different reactions, and that was odd. My wife lost her sense of taste and smell, she had severe nausea, she had a much higher fever than I did. I just had crippling body aches, I was very fatigued all the time and I couldn’t concentrate on anything for more than about 12 minutes.”

“That last bit is kinda like my natural state anyway,” he added with a laugh.
