Disney+ is adding another title to its line-up with the “National Treasure” series.
According to producer Jerry Bruckheimer “We’re certainly working on one [‘National Treasure’] for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen. Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another ‘National Treasure,’ but they’re both very active … The one for Disney Plus is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept but a young cast.”
The show, written by writers Cormac and Marianne Wibberley of the original “National Treasure” movie and its sequel “National Treasure: Book of Secrets”, will not star Nicolas Cage, but will follow a new set of characters with the protagonist being 20 year-old Jess Morales.
No news as to who will play the character or any other characters in the new series. However, according Jerry Bruckheimer, the show will keep the same adventure concept as the original movies. It will be helmed by “Vanity Fair” director Mira Nair.
At the same time, the “National Treasure 3” film is currently in the works, with original director Jon Turteltaub in the director’s seat. Nicolas Cage will return as cryptologist Benjamin Gates, as well as other cast members including Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha and Harvey Keitel.
