Mandopop singer Wei Wei recently announced that ex-husband Michael Joseph Smith has passed away.
Sharing the news on Weibo, the 60-year old singer revealed that she found out about Smith’s passing from her eldest son, as she herself had not been in contact with her ex-husband since their divorce in 2004. The 83-year-old composer had passed away from cancer back in April last year in Sweden.
“I hung up the phone and told myself, take a deep breath, everything about me and him, the good, the bad, the unfinished, it’s all over now. This man was the father of my three children and my ex-husband. The 10-year marriage started because of music, from getting to know each other to being separated. Fortunately, this relationship gave birth to three beautiful children. I am grateful to have them.”
“A new year, a new life, every day is brand new. The Year of the Tiger is leaving and the Rabbit is coming. Sixty years in a blink of an eye,” she added.
Wei Wei married the American composer in 1995 after meeting him while he was visiting China in 1992, and the couple had three children together, Symington, Remington and Vinson. The two ended their marriage in 2004, albeit not on good terms, and Wei Wei took their children back to China from Sweden.
