After previously announcing the delay of the Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA), the HKFA committee recently announced that the upcoming event will be held in July.
The news was shared by HKFA President Derek Yee, who stated that the decision was made in response to the Hong Kong government’s announcement that it will be easing up restrictions on social activities in stages.
“After careful considerations, the board of directors unanimously agreed to hold the event on 17 July at the KITEC Star Hall. We will continue to pay close attention to the development of the COVID-19 pandemic and related announcements,” he said.
It is noted that the HKFA was originally slated to be held on 17 April but had to be postponed indefinitely due to the tightening of restrictions following a surge of COVID-19 cases. However, Derek stressed that the event will not be cancelled after having to do so last year.
The list of this year’s nominations has already been released in February, with “Limbo” bagging the most categories, followed by “Anita” and Drifting”.
