Despite the surging number of COVID-19 cases around the world, HKFA Chairman Derek Yee stated that they will continue with announcing the nominees for this year’s Hong Kong Film Awards.
As reported on Mingpao, Derek, who spoke to the media about the said awards, stated that the board of directors have been called to discuss details and contingency measures.
As for the awards ceremony itself, which has been scheduled for 17 April at the Tsim Sha Tsui Cultural Centre, Derek said that it will be held accordingly, but that the committee will closely monitor the government’s restrictions on gatherings.
“This year’s situation is more complicated, because we have decided to hold it, so preparations need to be started. It will require a lot of funds,” he said.
It is noted that HKFA postponed its 40th awards last year due to the pandemic, with movies released in 2021 having to compete with 2022 releases as well.
“We can’t postpone it another year. It is not a good solution and it is not good to keep the backlog. The competition is very fierce and I hope it will be successful,” he added.
