Two Cebuanas have been chosen to represent the Philippines in the upcoming Miss World 2021 and Miss Universe 2021.
On 3 October, Tracy Maureen Perez was named Miss World Philippines 2021 at the pageant’s coronation night, defeating 44 other candidates to win the crown.
In an Instagram Story, Tracy wrote, “It hasn’t sunk in yet, I’m still in the process of taking it all in slowly, but one things for sure, I’m just truly grateful for everything and for everyone.”
Prior to Tracy, Cebu City candidate Beatrice Luigi Gomez won Miss Universe at the event held on 30 September – becoming the first openly-gay winner of the said pageant.
“No words can describe the pride and honour that I’ve been blessed with, from being a delegate tasked to represent my home, Cebu City, to being an ambassador and servant leader of my beloved country, Philippines. I am indebted to the people who rallied with me in my causes and in my journey to represent my community and to shed light in the diversity of women,” she wrote on social media.
Tracy will be representing the Philippines at Miss World in Puerto Rico in December, while Beatrice will be competing at the 70th Miss Universe pageant in the same month in Israel.
