Sunshine Dizon is all for divorce law if it is to be implemented in the Philippines.
As reported on ABS-CBN, the actress, who spoke to the media in a virtual conference of “Marry Me, Marry You” recently, understood how much it would have helped to have such a law passed, seeing that she herself had a tough time separating from her estranged husband Timothy Tan.
“That is part of life [to fall out of love], so why don’t we give a chance to people who want to start anew? Do we really need to have a psychological reason or something drastic just for the two people to separate? ” she said.
Sunshine continued, “Sometimes they really aren’t for each other anymore so I hope the laws will push through regarding divorce here in the Philippines so that people will have the freedom to love again, start again. That is my take on it.”
It is noted that Sunshine, who is married to businessman Timothy Tan since 2010, seeked an annulment in 2016 after the latter was found to have cheated on her with another woman.
Last month, the House Committee on Population and Family Relations endorsed for plenary approval a bill reinstituting absolute divorce as an alternative mode for the dissolution of marriage in the Philippines. The country is known to not provide for divorce since 1954.
