Limp Bizkit’s frontman Fred Durst is representing himself and the rest of the members in a lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG).
The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles’ Central District on 8 October, stated breach of contract, fraudulent concealment, copyright infringement and more against UMG, claiming that UMG has failed to pay the band at least USD 200 million in royalties.
They alleged that UMG never intended to do so and “designed and implemented royalty software and systems that were deliberately designed to conceal artists’ royalties and keep those profits for itself.”
They were told, as the claim revealed, that the payments were withheld as the company had yet to recoup the approximately USD 43 million that they had spent on the band over the years. It is noted that the band’s assets have grown 68 percent in recent years, said Durst, without having the need to release new music.
At the same time, Limp Bizkit believe that they are not the only artistes under the banner who have been stiffed on royalties.
Durst is now seeking to terminate the band’s contract with UMG.
