23-year-old Ellyn Ngai has been crowned the new Miss Hong Kong.
The beauty queen, dubbed City University’s Michelle Reis, accepted her crown and sceptre from the 2023 winner, Hilary Chong after besting 14 other finalists.
Despite being known for her resemblance to the said actress, Ellyn told the media that she hopes to gain everybody’s attention with her outstanding performance, so that she can finally shed the moniker that was given to her.
She also wished to use her status to promote women’s rights and to call for society to accept a broader understanding of beauty.
“In the next year, I will definitely shoulder the responsibility of Miss Hong Kong and do my best to tell the story of Hong Kong. In addition, I will continue to explore myself more towards my dreams and goals,” she expressed on Instagram following her victory.
Meanwhile, the first runner-up title went to Emily Leung. The 22-year-old, who graduated from Parson School of Design in New York is currently pursuing her Master’s degree at the HKU Business School.
Aside from winning the runner-up, she also won the title of Miss Photogenic.
