Jackie Chan is set to return to the cinemas with the upcoming mainland film, “Panda Plan”.
The actor, who spoke to the media at the press conference of the movie, said that he has thought about making a movie about pandas ever since he worked on voicing the character of Master Monkey in DreamWorks “Kung Fu Panda”.
“We own kung fu and we have panda bears in China, and our pandas are very popular. But I didn’t know where to start, that is until director Zhang Luan approached me with the story,” he said.
However, Jackie admitted that he declined the offer at first because Zhang wanted him to play himself. However, after much thinking, he decided to do it as it was a family movie.
At the same time, the action star said that he has always made movies for a purpose.
“For example, I made ‘Chinese Zodiac’ because I saw how our national treasures are exhibited in foreign museums and I want people with conscience to return them. And I made this movie because I want more children in the world to learn more about pandas. Panda represents China, friendship and peace. Friendship and peace are exactly what we need now,” he added.
“Panda Plan” is set for release on 10 October.
