The comedy classic “God of Cookery” will finally have its day in Chinese theatres after 28 years.
According to Epoch Times, the restored version of the comedy film will be released in China on 31 August and may have only slight changes to anything in the movie related to the Shaolin name.
Directed by Stephen Chow and Lee Lik Chi, the movie stars the comedy auteur as a disgraced celebrity chef who finds a newfound love for culinary after he ends up working for a food cart vendor.
As to why it will finally be released in China after nearly three decades, some speculated that it was to save the market, as the summer movie season in China has been bleak.
Chinese fans of the comedy star also expressed elation over the movie coming to the big screen, with one saying, “I’d rather revisit the old classics than watch bad movies.”
