Hong Kong filmmaker Soi Cheang (also known by his birth name Cheang Pou-soi) recently confirmed the sequel and prequel to his hit film, “Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In”.

In a recent interview with THR to promote the film’s US release, the director said that the sequel is currently in development and that he is also working on a prequel.

“The plan is to shoot both simultaneously, which will allow us to maintain continuity, especially given the large ensemble cast. Bringing everyone together at the same time will create a cohesive storytelling experience across both films,” he said.

Soi said that he was fascinated by the idea of exploring the older generation’s story during the 1950s, where people from different countries came to Hong Kong and brought their diverse cultures into the island.

“This influx played a crucial role in the formation of the Walled City, and I’m interested in exploring why this unique space was built in the first place and how it became what it was,” he said.

As for the sequel, Soi said that he will be delving into the lives of the four young characters the first film introduced and explore what happens to them after the Walled City comes down.

“Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In” became the second highest grossing Hong Kong movie, after earning HKD 99.3 million at the Hong Kong box office, surpassing lead actor Louis Koo’s previous film, “Warriors of Future” but unable to unseat Dayo Wong’s “A Guilty Conscience” in first place.
