Shun Oguri and Yu Aoi are reuniting in the upcoming new Netflix series, “Human Vapor”.
As reported on Variety, the series, which is co-produced by Toho, is a modern reimagining of the 1960 sci-fi thriller of the same name directed by Ishiro Honda.
It revolves around a librarian, who upon gaining the ability to transform into a gaseous state after being subjected to radiation experiments, decided to use his powers to rob banks in order to support a struggling dancer he admires.
It is noted that Shun and Yu last worked together 23 years ago in, Naoharu Takahashi’s “Ao to Shiro de Mizuiro”.
The series will also be executive produced by “Train to Busan” director Yeon Sang-ho, who also co-wrote the script alongside Ryu Yong-jae (Korea’s “Money Heist”).
Shinzo Katayama, who helmed “Gannibal”, will direct the series.
Said the director, “I was intrigued by its blend of human drama and romantic elements, despite featuring an absurd creature like the Human Vapor. I saw the potential to modernise this classic special effects piece with today’s VFX CG and incorporate human drama to make it a very compelling work.”
