BTS Suga has recently apologised after he was involved in a drunk driving incident involving an e-scooter.
In an apology written on 7 August and shared via Weverse, the singer posted, “It is with a very heavy and apologetic heart that I have to come to you with such disappointment. I rode an electric scooter home after drinking at the dinner party last night. Due to the notion that it was a short distance away, I didn’t realise that I couldn’t use an e-scooter when I was drunk, and thus violated the Road Traffic Act.”
“While parking the electric scooter at the door of my house, I fell alone. Because there was a police officer around, I took a drinking test and was fined for the result. Although no one was harmed or facilities were damaged in the process, it was my indisputable responsibility, so I bow my head and apologise to everyone.”
BIG HIT MUSIC also posted a statement regarding the issue, saying that Suga was on his way home drunk and used his e-scooter while wearing his helmet.
“The incident did not cause any casualties or property damage, and he returned home after being handed over by the police. Our company apologises for disappointing many people due to the inappropriate behaviour of the artiste,” it added.
According to the June 2020 amendment to South Korea’s “Road Traffic Act”, electric scooters are classified as “personal mobility device” and can only be used by people over 16 years old and holding a motorcycle driver’s license. They must wear a helmet and cannot be ridden after drinking (blood alcohol concentration above 0.03%).
