Malaysia’s Good Vibes Festival (GVF) 2024 scheduled this month has been canceled in honour of the Installation ceremony of the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim.
The organiser, Future Sound Asia (FSA) made the decision after the Application Committee for Filming and Performances of Foreign Artists (JK-Puspal) amended the date of the concert involving foreign artistes on 20 July.
“Due to the nature of GVF2024 which involves multiple touring acts over multiple days, rescheduling the festival is not possible. As a result, Future Sound Asia is announcing the cancellation of the festival, originally scheduled for July 20 and 21, 2024,” the statement from Future Sound Asia read.
The organiser added that all ticket purchasers will automatically receive full refunds to the payment method used for their purchase.
GVF was initially to take place at Resorts World Awana in Genting Highlands and feature performances from stars like Japanese singer-songwriter Joji, American rapper Russ as well as Colombian singer J Balvin and South Korean singer rapper duo Tiger JK & Yoon Mirae.
This is the second year in a row that the GVF has been cancelled.
Last year, the festival made headlines when it was cancelled after a slew of rude behaviours by the British band 1975, from destroying the festival’s drone, spitting and drinking on stage, insulting the Malaysian government, and frontman Matt Healy kissing his bassist Ross MacDonald on stage. The band left the stage after their seventh song, claiming they “just got banned from Kuala Lumpur”.
