Coco Lee’s management has recently released the singer’s version of the classic song, “Always on My Mind”.
In commemoration of the first anniversary of her passing, CL Production Ltd and Sony Music Taiwan released the single, which was Coco’s reinterpretation of Elvis Presley’s hit song, on 16 July.
The company also released a statement, saying that Coco chose to record the song as it was her mother’s favourite song. It was originally recorded by Brenda Lee, and first released by Gwen McCrae, in early 1972 before Elvis made his version legendary.
The late singer once posted the original song on social media on Mother’s Day for her mother, and wrote, “This song was released in 1972 after Elvis and his ex-wife divorced. The lyrics express the deep affection and regret of ‘only learning to cherish someone after the loss’. Maybe I didn’t always accompany you, or express my love immediately, but you will always be in my heart.”
The version sung by Coco has a more R&B style, with her vocals changing from soft chanting to high-pitched expressions, flowing with the ebb and flow of emotions, expressing the love and concern in her heart, deeply demonstrating her singing skills and the voice she wanted to convey.
This year marks the 30th anniversary since Coco’s debut.
