Eric Tsang has recently announced the name of the band that has been formed through the TVB and Youku talent search show, “Asia Super Young”, and the responses have been mixed.

The TVB Executive recently revealed that the group, consisting of nine members, will be named Loong 9, saying that the word “loong” symbolises the Year of the Dragon, the year that the group was established.

However, the name had since become a butt of joke among netizens, who found so many creative nicknames for Loong 9 due to its homophonic sound that can be heard as “roasted rod” or “burnt ballsack”.

They also made fun of the logo, which they said resembles the logo of the group NINE PERCENT, which was also created through a reality show in China.

At the same time, some are criticising one of the members who was shortlisted, the Hong Kong representative, Sean Wen, whom many said had a poor performance compared to some who were unsuccessful in making the team.

It is noted that “Asia Super Young” was a reality show where 65 trainees competed for a spot in a nine-member boyband, similar to the South Korean show, “Produce 101” and China’s “Youth with You”.

The nine members who made the cut are Ollie, Ely, Archie, Kong Son Hei, Liang Shi Yu, Albin, Sean, Hugo and Felix.
