Hong Kong singer Hubert Wu found himself in hot water after he was reprimanded for bringing over 100 heated cigarettes from mainland China into Hong Kong in late January.
As reported on Mingpao, the 33-year-old singer was allegedly detained as he re-entered Hong Kong following a concert in Guangzhou, and will be appearing in court soon.
Speaking to the media regarding the issue, Hubert stated that he was helping a friend buy all the heated cigarettes and had not much knowledge regarding the dos and don’ts.
“I thought we could bring in heated cigarettes through Customs. I have learned from this experience and will not do it again,” he added.
However, he denied that he was arrested by the Customs.
Shaw Brothers also released a statement regarding the issue, saying, “The court will issue a summons after detailed inspection by the Health Department. Hubert felt embarrassed that as an artiste, he had violated the law due to his lack of knowledge of the law. He promised that he would reflect deeply and learn his lessons.”
