Ed Sheeran surprised Singaporean fans recently when he suddenly revealed his guest performer at his “Mathematics” tour.
On 16 February, the British singer-songwriter held his concert at the National Stadium, performing for thousands of fans his hit songs that include “Shivers” and “Thinking Out Loud” before telling fans he is doing something special and inviting to the stage his guest performer.
… who turned out to be JJ Lin. He then performed part of JJ’s Mandarin song, “Twilight” with the said singer before JJ wished him a happy birthday in the final seconds of the song.
JJ had since taken to social media to share a clip from the performance, writing, “Not just Mathematics, it was MAGICAL!!! Thanks for having me.”
Meanwhile, Sheeran posted, “I had the honour of having the amazing @jjlin on stage last night in Singapore. Me and the band had learnt one of his biggest hits, Twilight, for the show, but because it was entirely in Mandarin, I felt like I didn’t want to mess it up, or be disrespectful by getting it wrong so the original plan was for us to play and JJ to sing. 10 mins before I went on JJ said he would sit and teach me some of the Mandarin and it was so fun to do live. My first time speaking and singing in Mandarin and deffo not the last.”
Sheeran also excited fans when he performed “Happier”, which was not in the set list for the concert.
The singer-songwriter will be performing next in Kuala Lumpur on 24 February, Jakarta on 2 March, and Manila on 9 March.
