Hong Kong director and actor Frankie Chan denies that he intentionally lied to everybody when he said that Kathy Chow was doing fine amid rumours that she had died earlier.
As reported on Mingpao, the director originally assured that everything was well with his good friend when asked by the media prior to news of Kathy’s passing, saying that Kathy has recovered with the help of expert doctors.
“Kathy has indeed been ill recently, and she was admitted to a hospital in Beijing. Doctors are actively treating her, and Kathy is expected to recover. I can responsibly say that Kathy Chow is still alive today,” he said at the time.
However, news of her passing had since been confirmed by her representative, which angered fans, who went to Frankie’s Weibo to accuse him of deceiving people.
To that, Frankie said, “I didn’t lie to anyone, and I don’t want to lie to anyone! Before the hospital gave up treatment, those of us who love her held on to a glimmer of hope and prayed that she could get through this difficult time!”
Kathy passed away on 11 December at the age of 57.
