Angelica Lee recently revealed that one of the reasons she wanted to produce her first movie was so she can promote more Malaysian movies abroad.

As reported on Mingpao, the Malaysian-born actress, who spoke to the media recently following the victory of “Abang Adik” actor Wu Kang-ren at the Golden Horse Awards, shared that when she was approached to produce the said Ong Lay Jin movie, her motivation in accepting it was so that she could help the industry further.

“I want to use my resources and experience in the film industry to help local Malaysian films, improve them and bring them to other places. Malaysia is my hometown,” she said.

Angelica stated that director Ong has been working hard to promote Malaysian movies, and that when he approached her with the story, he said that he was following his intuition.

“Of course, the story of Abang Adik moved me very much and I care about marginalised people. We are both newcomers in this situation and that there is a lot of learning and growth,” she said.

The movie, which also stars Malaysian actor Jack Tan, will be released in Hong Kong on 7 December.
