Paris Jackson recently expressed annoyance over netizens slamming her for not making any post about her father, the late superstar Michael Jackson on what should have been his 65th birthday on 29 August.

On 30 August, the model and singer took to social media to address the backlash, saying that her father used to hate it when people acknowledge his birthday or celebrating it when he was alive.

“He actually didn’t want us to even know when his birthday was because he didn’t want us to, like, throw a party or anything like that,” said Paris. “That being said, social media is apparently how people express their love and affection these days, and if you don’t wish someone happy birthday via social media, it apparently means that you don’t love them, you don’t care about them.”

The younger Jackson also stated that people used to bash her to a point of asking her to kill herself for not posting about Michael, and that they “basically [measure] my love for my own father based off of what I post on Instagram.”

Finally, the 25-year-old singer stated that people who love her father should instead do what Michael loved during his life as an homage during his birthday.

“Get involved with raising awareness for climate change, doing stuff for the environment, animal rights activism — these were things he loved, and he was interested in,” she said.
