Anastasia Tsang’s debut feature, “A Light Never Goes Out” has been selected to represent Hong Kong for the Best International Picture category at the upcoming Academy Awards.

As reported on Mingpao, the cast and crew recently expressed elation and surprise over the news, with the director saying, “After all, there are many outstanding Hong Kong films this year. It is an honour for me to represent Hong Kong. I hope more of our movies will be seen by international audiences.”

The movie, which was also co-written by Anastasia, stars Sylvia Chang as a recently widowed woman who decides to finish her late husband’s dream of making neon street signs. It co-stars Simon Yam and Cecilia Choi.

“A Light Never Goes Out” previously held its world premiere at the Tokyo Film Festival, followed by screenings in Udine and Rotterdam.

Sylvia also won Best Actress for her performance in the movie at the Golden Horse Awards last year.
