NewJeans’ latest release, “Get Up” has now made history, after debuting at No.1 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums.
According to Variety, this means that the group is only the second female K-pop group to ever do so aside from BLACKPINK, and the fastest to do so, having only made their debut in 2022 compared to the said YG group’s 2016 debut.
They also made history as the second all-female group to launch a No. 1 album onto the Billboard 200 in the last 15 years, the other one being BLACKPINK’s “Born Pink”.
Prior to the two groups, the last all-female group to do so was US’ Danity Kane.
Billboard stated, “Of Get Up’s 126,500 equivalent album units earned in the week ending July 27, album sales comprise 101,500 (with 99% of that sum driven by CD sales and 1% via digital download), SEA units comprise 24,500 (equalling 34.39 million on-demand official streams of the set’s six tracks) and TEA units comprise 500.”
