Cathy Garcia-Molina recently revealed that she will soon be directing a movie starring real life celebrity couple Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.
The filmmaker, who spoke to the media at the press conference for her new movie, the Vice Ganda-starrer, “Partners in Crime”, shared that production of the KathNiel movie will begin in the first quarter of 2023.
However, Cathy denied that it will be another rom-com for the onscreen and off-screen couple, saying that it will be different this time.
“It’s something new and we’re all very excited for KathNiel. It’s weird, really. All of us agreed [not to make it a rom-com], and the two also wanted to do something fresh,” she said.
The filmmaker added, “You can’t not do the love story. But there’s so much more than that. They’re going to be more mature, not only as characters but the story, and I think the direction as well.”
At the same time, she denied that the movie is the Star Cinema project, “After Forever”, which was announced back in 2020. The director stated that the said movie can only be filmed in the US as it’s specifically made to be shot in the country.
If it comes to fruition, this will be Cathy’s sixth KathNiel movie since 2013’s “Got to Believe”, and her eighth movie starring Kathryn.
Among other projects starring the couple that she helmed include “She’s Dating a Gangster” and the romance drama, “The Hows of Us”.
