Anthony Wong has won his very first Golden Horse Awards’ Best Actor trophy for his performance in “The Sunny Side of the Street”.
As reported on Epoch Times, the Hong Kong actor, who focuses more on his career in Taiwan in recent years, stated that he was surprised to win the award, after predicting that a different actor would win it.
“I had been pretty accurate in guessing the winners throughout the night, but I made a wrong prediction just now,” he said when accepting the accolade.
He also brought his young co-star Sahal Zaman on stage, who told the media that he was never terrified of Anthony despite his reputation as a strict actor. The young actor played a 10-year-old Pakistani refugee boy to Anthony’s taxi driver role in the movie.
Anthony bested contenders that include Hong Kong actors Louis Cheung and Gordon Lam, as well as Joseph Chang and Yu An-Shun.
Although this is his first Golden Horse Best Actor award, Anthony has already won at the Golden Horse Awards three times in 2002, 2003, and 2005 in the Best Supporting Male Actor category.
