Barbie Hsu recently revealed that she did want to quit showbiz in the past, following her breakup with Korean entertainer Koo Jun-Yup.
In an interview with VOGUE recently, in which the celebrity couple spoke for the first time about their stranger-than-fiction romance, Barbie admitted that she deemed their breakup in the early 2000s to be very tragic.
“I really wanted to quit showbiz. I thought that I couldn’t freely associate with him because of showbiz, and it made me hate the job,” she said.
However, it was after being persuaded by talent agent Weizhong that she decided to just take a three-month leave to London to take a breather.
“Even though my sister accompanied me to London to heal my wound, he would always come to mind,” she said.
She admitted to be very surprised when Koo called her following her divorce from businessman Wang Xiaofei last year, 20 years since their breakup.
“After chatting for several weeks, we started using video chats, and I remember the first sentence I said when I saw him was, ‘Ou Ba, you’re getting so old!’ and he replied that Xiyuan is so beautiful. You haven’t changed at all,” she enthused.
“I originally asked him if we could be friends [after the breakup], but he said it would be better not to be in contact anymore. He was so calm even after the breakup that it made me heartbroken at the time. So, I had never thought he would call me again 20 years later.”
Barbie said that throughout her life, she has always been filled with fear of pressures and burdens, and had to face everything like a warrior.
“But after meeting Ou Ba, everything was different… Sometimes, when I go to bed in the middle of the night, I thought, am I dreaming? But I only need to touch his bald head to know this is real,” she said.
