Andy Lau has recently released his statement of apology after the accusation of plagiarism has befallen his new video advertisement for Audi.

As reported on Oriental Daily, the actor had earlier shared an ad which he filmed for the luxury carmaker, in which he delivered a monologue while sitting in the back seat of an Audi car about Xiaoman, which is the Lunar calendar’s second solar term of summer.

While many praised Andy for the performance, the ad attracted the attention of one online influencer by the name of Beida Mange, who revealed that the ad’s concept and the said monologue were copied from his 2021 post. He also stated that he has been plagiarised many times before, but that the said campaign actually copied everything. The said influencer has over 3.6 million followers on Douyin .

Andy has since removed the ad from his website, and posted, “I have 100 percent respect for originality. In this incident, I regret the problems of the advertising team had in the creative process, and the trouble caused to Mange.”

He also revealed that Audi and the advertising agency responsible for the ad are in the process of dealing with the issue.

On the other hand, Audi stated that it has already removed the video ad from all channels and apologised for the infringement, while the agency M&C Saatchi, who raised the idea of the campaign, apologised for using Mange’s original content without consent.
