Japan’s TV Asahi recently announced that it will be broadcasting the remake of Korea’s “Itaewon Class” this July, with Takeuchi Ryoma starring in the lead.

The official website revealed that Takeuchi will be playing the manager of an izakaya in Roppongi in the said remake that has been titled, “Roppongi Class”.

Speaking about the role, Takeuchi stated, “Itaewon Class is also very talked about in Japan, so of course I know this drama, I have watched it, and I think it is a great work, so I was very surprised to receive this invitation.”

“It’s amazing to have Tokyo in the background, and I’m honoured to be cast in this drama and I’ll do my best,” he added.

The original series is based on the webtoon of the same name

It is noted that the original series stars Park Seo-Joon in the lead. It is based on a webtoon of the same name by Kwang Jin, which revolves around a hole-in-the-wall pub owner who plans to take down the very wealthy family who caused his father’s death.

The original co-stars Kim Da-Mi, Yoo Jae-Myung, and Kwon Na-Ra.
