Chinese actor Deng Lun was recently found guilty of tax evasion, and has been fined RMB 106 million (approx. US$16.6 million).

As reported on Mingpao, the news was confirmed by the Shanghai tax authorities, saying that the actor evaded his individual income tax between 2019 and 2020 by making false declarations.

He was also revealed to have evaded paying RMB 47.65 million and underpaid RMB 13.99 in personal income tax.

The “Ashes of Love” star had since apologised, stating, “In the process of cooperating with the tax department’s investigation, I have deeply reflected on myself and realised my mistakes. I accept all decisions made by the tax authority and will bear all relevant responsibilities and consequences.”

Following the news, it was revealed that Deng Lun’s social media accounts, including his personal Weibo, have been removed. Several sponsors like Viomi Technology and L’Oreal have also announced that they have terminated partnerships with Deng.

It is noted that Deng endorses multiple brands both domestic and international, including fashion houses Bulgari, Bally, and Roger Vivier.
