It hasn’t been a week since Namewee dropped the music video for his song, “Curry & Roti”, and yet it has now reached over 4.4 million views on YouTube.
The said MV, which is a soundtrack for his Lunar New Year movie, “Nasi Lemak 1.0”, has the singer-songwriter frolicking on the beach in a full Indian sherwani alongside his movie co-star Sanjna Suri, as several dancers performed alongside them.
It is noted, though, that the Indian female voice in the song is actually singer Thila Laxshman.
The said music video, which was released on 4 February, has now been viewed over 4.4 million times, with most commenters expressing how much they enjoyed the song, dance and the funny lyrics.
“It made me laugh till my stomach hurts,” said one commenter.
“Let’s introduce this song to the whole of India and make it trending there. It should be a hit,” said another.
It is noted that the movie, which was released on 27 January, climbed up straight to number two in the Malaysian box office weekend, falling only one spot following the release of Roland Emmerich’s “Moonfall” and Jack Neo’s “Ah Girls Go Army”.
Not to be confused as a prequel to his 2011 movie, “Nasi Lemak 2.0”, the new movie stars Namewee as Chef Huang who finds himself going back in time to 600 years ago to the days of the Melaka Sultanate.
The movie co-stars, AC Mizal, Saiful Apek, Wak Doyok, Karen Wong, David Arumugam and Yassin among others.
