After previously expressing hesitance over helming the second season of his hit Netflix series, “Squid Game”, director Hwang Dong-hyuk recently confirmed that there will be a season two.
Speaking to Associated Press recently, he stated, “There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So, I almost feel like you leave us no choice!”
“But I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen,” he said, before adding in English, “Gi-hun will come back, he will do something for the world.”
Back when the series initially became a hit, Hwang stated that he had no plans to produce season two, saying that it’s tiring even thinking about it.
“But if I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors,” he added.
“Squid Game” is currently Netflix’s most watched television series, drawing more than 111 million views.
