Deepika Padukone recently got fans singing praises after it was reported that the actress made a generous donation to the Save Bala campaign.
The actress was revealed to have contributed more than Rs 10 lakh (which is equivalent to nearly USD 14,000) towards Bala Prajapati, an acid-attack survivor who currently requires a kidney transplant.
It is noted that Deepika once worked with Bala, who starred alongside her in the film, “Chhapaak” – a movie based on the life of acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.
Bala herself was a victim of an acid-attack in 2012 alongside her grandfather, who passed away following the attack, while she had to go through multiple surgeries because of it.
The said survivor reportedly has been struggling for her life in Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital due to a kidney disease.
The said donation is being sent to the Chhanv foundation, whose director Alok Dixit stated, “We appreciate Deepika’s gesture. Her assistance has undoubtedly aided us in our efforts to raise donations for Bala.”
“However, there is still work to be done. Bala is a dialysis patient who receives dialysis twice a week. To expedite the process, we are taking advice from the doctors of leading hospitals. We need to find a kidney donor because her mother and brother were judged to be unable to donate a kidney and she can’t live on dialysis for long.”
