It looks like us Malaysians will not be rooting for our beauty queen this year at the international stage, as it was revealed that Miss Universe Malaysia will not be sending a representative to the 70th Miss Universe pageant.
The news was confirmed by the Miss Universe Malaysia Organization in an official statement that read, “We note the Miss Universe Organization’s decision to hold the 70th anniversary of the pageant in Eliat, Israel in December 2021.”
“Unfortunately, due to worsening COVID-19 situation which has resulted in limited international and domestic travel, we have been unable to hold our local Miss Universe Malaysia 2021 pageant.”
In the same statement, the organisation wished all delegates the best of luck at the said pageant and look forward to participating again in the near future.
Malaysia’s most recent winner was Francisca Luhong James, who is also the first Dayak woman to win the prestigious title. However, she did not make it into the Top 21 semi-finalist.
