The upcoming Beijing International Film Festival has been postponed due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in China.

As reported on Epoch Times, Gong Li, who serves as the chairperson of the 11th edition of the said festival, shared the news that read, “Due to the recent outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in many places in China, in order to protect everyone’s health and safety, the 11th Beijing International Film Festival that was originally scheduled to be held from August 14 to 21 will be postponed.”

The statement added that the organising committee will play close attention to the situation and will announce the new date when the condition permits.

It was only last week that Gong elatedly announced the said festival, posting on Weibo, “Welcome every fan and friend to the Beijing International Film Festival!”

It is noted that the Beijing Municipal Government recently announced that it will cancel large-scale events to ensure safety, with movie theatres, libraries, museums and other places implementing stricter measures.
